Lee Roy Selmon's story is a mix of football scholarship for his family as well as service to his community. First, the Selmon family. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. The family raised nine kids in a Eufala farm. Another reason for his football career was that he is the youngest of three brothers to play with Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-Americans. One year 1973 Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award and the Lombardi award as the top lineman in America. During his three years as the Oklahoma's quarterback of choice, the Sooners went 32-1-1 and won two national titles. Selmon was an National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon was awarded the opportunity to receive a scholarship in his third time in 1975. Selmon earned a diploma from the University of California, Berkeley. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer time per week throughout his time in college. Following college, he relocated to Tampa and played nine seasons with Tampa's Buccaneers. He was an All-Pro three times. He then began his career. The first position he held was a Account Relations Officer with First Florida Bank, Tampa. He has worked previously for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of America's most outstanding young men. While a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 pounds. He captained his college team in 1975. In 1993, he was named as associate director at the University of South Florida. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988, and the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, and then the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave an award of the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Jr. The award ceremony was conducted by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
