
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18 1999) is an American performer and actress who worked for more than 40 years. London is a torch singer loved for her smooth, melodic vocals and her languid contralto voice was a recording artist on more than thirty albums of standards and jazz between 1955 and 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001 was her rendition of "Cry me a river" the track she had introduced to her debut album. London was nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award as a actress for her portrayal in Emergency The Adventures of Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35 year acting career began in the film industry in 1944. It included roles as the female lead in a variety of westerns. In the mid-50s she signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional career. She released her final album of studio recordings in 1969 but achieved continuing success playing the female starring role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) during which she acted with her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband who produced the show.
